In collaboration with the Norwegian Refugee Council, the Research and Training Unit at GCMHP has recently held two follow up sessions for the two courses of ‘Stress Management and Selfcare’ which were conducted during September and October with the participation of 97 supervisors and teachers who work for the Ministry of Education and UNRWA. This was funded by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and was attended by Ms. Rawya Hamam, Head of the Training and Research Unit at GCMHP, Dr. Amjad Jomaa, the Head of the Ministry of Education team, Dr. Sameh AlJbour, Coordinator of the Professional and Curricula Development Unit at the Education Department of UNRWA. A number of specialists conducted the training at Al Mashtal Hotel in Gaza.
The two follow up sessions included a number of topics and exercises such as warm up exercises, success stories, and enhancing some practical skills through application. It was ended by giving the attendees some symbolic gifts for their participation.
The Training and Research Unit has also recently conducted a follow up session in collaboration with Hayat Centre of the Islamic University of Gaza’s Medical School. This follow up session was for the Psychological First Aid for Adults course previously held in September with the participation of 10 medics from the Islamic University of Gaza. The Psychologist Osama Frena led this training in the training hall of the main office of the GCMHP.
This session tackled a number of topics such as introducing Psychological First Aid and the position of this in wholistic intervention, the principles of Psychological First Aid, Selfcare, providing care for the members of the team, adapting Psychological First Aid with the local environment as well as a number of practical applications.
The session was concluded when the trainer thanked all the attendees for their interactive participation, wishing them luck in their careers. Participants also thanked the trainer and the programme for this course and session which added a lot to their knowledge and achieved their goals.
