On Wednesday and Thursday, 22 and 23 January 2025, Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, in cooperation with the Technical Group for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, held a training entitled ‘Psychological First Aid’.
The training targeted humanitarian workers, with 27 participants attending the first day, and 20 participants attending the second day.
The training days, each lasted 4 hours, were held at Palestinian NGO Network headquarters in Gaza City.
The training objectives included:
Developing the skills of field workers in providing psychological first aid and to improve their response to the needs of individuals affected.
Introducing the principles of psychological first aid and enhancing effective communication skills to provide psychological support to people in the early stages of crises.
The organisers noted that this course aims to enable field workers to provide professional psychological services that contribute to ensuring a rapid and comprehensive response to the psychological needs of affected communities.
In addition, the training focused on building individual and community resilience in the face of ongoing humanitarian challenges.
At the end of the training days, the participants appreciated the importance of the course in enhancing their practical skills, while also emphasised the need for continued joint efforts to provide psychological support in light of the current humanitarian challenges.
