Director General of Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, Dr Yasser Abu Jamei, has participated as a speaker in an online meeting held under the rubric: "Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Palestinians and Refugees in the Gaza Strip - Needs, Responses and Challenges".
The meeting was participated in by the Minister of Health, Dr Mai Al Kaila, and a group of international and local experts from the World Health Organization; the International Federation of Medical Students Associations, The Lancet, and the UNRWA.
The meeting has shed light on the impact of conflicts and closures on the health of Palestinians, especially mental health in the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to discussing the importance of integrating mental health services and psychosocial support into UNRWA programs, and the right of Palestinians and refugees to better health.
Dr Abu Jamei’s participation focused on the role of Palestinian NGOs in providing mental health services and psychosocial support for the population in the Gaza Strip against the backdrop of the complicated political and social conditions.
