Italian Gazzella Onlus Delegation Vistits GCMHP

A delegation from the Italian Humanitarian Organization of Gazzella Onlus visited on Tuesday 22, 2022 Gaza Community Mental Health Programme to follow up the school counselling units project.

The delegation which included both Ms Sancia Gaetani, and Gianna Urizio, representing Gazzella Onlus, met with GCMHP Director General,  Dr Yasser Abu Jamei, and Director of External Relations and Resource Development Department, Mr Qusai Abuodeh , as well as Head of Projects Unit, Ms Aisha Al-Basyouni.

During their meeting Dr Abu Jamei briefed the delegation on mental health state in the Gaza Strip and the different types of mental health services provided to the population in addition to interventions made  at crisis times. He also explained the challenges that faces the mental health sector and the efforts GCMHP has made to overcome them.

Mr Abuodeh, on his part, made a presentation on the various interventions made through different goal-oriented projects and the target groups of the people being intervened with.

The delegation (accompanied by Mr Al-Basyouni; Mr Anwer Ahmad, Head of Counselling Department at the MOE; and Ms Abeer Al-Shurafa, Head of School Health at the MoE) made a field visit to the schools in which the project is being implemented.

During their field tour, the delegation met with the school counsellors and principals and discussed with them  the work done with the children and the main psychological challenges they suffered in the aftermath of the Israeli offensive launched in May last year.
