The meeting – conducted online due to the pandemic outbreak – was delivered by the international psychodrama experts, Dr Stefan Flegelskamp, and Dr Milena Mutafchieva, and was attended by local psychodrama professionals from GCMHP and from other partner organizations.
The session focused on providing the professionals with guidance on how to continue to provide their services under the stressful situation ensued by pestilence breakout. They discussed the challenges they face during their intervention, especially with the people who have been directly affected by Coronavirus.
The international experts also discussed the situation of the mental health professionals and the challenges they face in the light of the global crisis, and how the Gaza Strip, with its special situation, puts additional challenges on the mental health sector, explaining that people who work in mental health and psychosocial support need to practice self-care so as to be able to continue their support for the others.
They also discussed the methods through which the psychodrama professional can help individuals exploit the strengths which they have discovered during the lockout period and build upon them as well as to invest into their sources of support, especially in those related to the family and fields and other social relationships.
In addition, the international experts discussed with the professionals the different positive coping techniques that their clients use and how they can help them continue to use these techniques, and also help them be oriented about the achievements they have made through their coping mechanisms as this should support their wellbeing
