Gaza Community Mental Health Programme held its Annual General Assembly Meeting

Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) held its annual General Assembly meeting. The meeting was in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Abu Shahla, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Assembly members, Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei, Director General of GCMHP, other Heads of Departments and Community Centers of GCMHP, Mr. Alaa Murtaja and Mr. Hani Daloul, representatives of the Ministry of Interior.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Abu Jamei welcomed the General Assembly and Board of Directors members, the Ministry of Interior, the office of the external legal advisor, the office of the financial auditor, and GCMHP’s administration and staff.

Dr. Abu Shahla started his speech calling the participants for a minute of silence on the Great Return March martyrs . Moreover, he thanked the Board of Directors members for overseeing the Programme for the 3 years term which ended this year. Additionally, Dr. Abu Shahla thanked the election committee and the Programme’s staff for their hard work  and efforts.

Furthermore, Dr. Abu Shahla highlighted the main achievements and internal and external challenges faced by the Programme in the previous year. He also spoke about  GCMHP’s key achievements which included the following: completing the second phase of building the Programme’s permanent headquarters under the name of the late Dr. Eyad El Sarraj. In addition to having a consistent administrative stability based on practical and professional principles, and reactivating the Scientific Research Unit . Dr. Abu Shahla pointed that the Programme’s achievements reflect its professional and administrative excellence on all levels. He finalized his speech hoping that the Programme continues providing its services to the Palestinian community.

On his turn, Mr. Issa Nahal, the Secretary of Board of Directors highlighted the most important achievements and success during the year 2017, and presented 2017’s annual narrative report. This annual report highlighted the activities of GCMHP under the strategic goals including; working with children, victims of human rights violations, research, capacity building, and advocacy & lobbying.

Furthermore, Mr. Shehada El- Ebweni, Board of Directors Treasurer, and Mr. Yousef El- Ghazali, Head of Administrative and Financial Affairs at GCMHP, presented the financial report and the financial data for the year 2017. This report included the financial data and the audit report published by Price Water House company.

Also, the General Assembly members praised the tremendous efforts exerted by the Programme in the year 2017.

Moreover, the participants raised some questions and inquires on the financial and annual reports; discussion took place and Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei, Mr. Issa Nahal and Mr. Yousef Ghazali clarified some issues and answered the questions raised by the General Assembly.

At the end of the meeting, the participants unanimously approved the financial and the annual reports for the year 2017. The agreement with Price Water House company was extended as an external auditor for 2018 financial year. In addition, a new Board of Directors consisting of 9 members was elected for the years 2018-2020
