Gaza Community Mental Health Programme has recently concluded three meetings on the topic of communication between parents and children. These come as part of the International German Cooperation(GIZ) funded project ‘Sports for Smiles.’ Mr. Muhannad AlSalhi, project coordinator at GCMHP, and Ms. Noura Ashour, project coordinator at GIZ, both attended the meetings along with 100 parents of children who are participating in the project. These were conducted at Almaghazi Services Club, AlHilal Sports Club in Gaza, and the Palestinian Red Crescent Club in Khanyounis .
A group of specialists and professionals conducted these meetings focusing on the subject of ‘Healthy Communication Mechanisms between Parents and Children,’ how to manage conversation channels between parents and children, and how to develop their trust.
This project aims at providing psychological support for children through sport activities and improving their ability to deal with difficult life conditions. It targets 500 male and female children between the ages of 12 and 17. 65 of these are people with disabilities. 20 coaches in 4 sport clubs are also targeted by this project. These clubs are Beit Hanoun Youth Club, Alhilal Sport Club in Gaza, Al Maghazi Services Club, and the Palestinian Red Crescent Club in Khanyounis.
