The Training and Scientific Research Department at the Gaza Community Mental Health Program concluded on Wednesday the 18th of September, 2019 a training course entitled “Mental Health and Human Rights”, with the participation of 19 participants from the directors of departments and heads of units working in the Ministry of Interior – and from different specialties.
The course was concluded by Ms. Rawya Hamam, Director of Training and Scientific Research Program and Colonel Dr. Emad Harb, Legal Advisor to the Director of General Investigation, and Mr. Mohamed Al-Nakhala, Director of Planning and Development at the General Investigation of the Police and psychologist Abdul Hameed Muhareb, who welcomed all participants and commended their commitment and active participation during the training which aimed at providing participants with knowledge about the concepts of mental health and human rights, ethics of dealing with the patient, identify the depression disorder and self-harm, the mechanism of detection and referral, and functional combustion as well as the acquisition of skills In the management of stress and self-care.
Ms. Hamam stressed the close relationship between mental health and human rights, because it is not possible to achieve the mental health of individuals and communities without preserving their dignity and safeguarding their human rights as recognized by heavenly laws and international conventions. She wished the participants to apply what they learned during the training and benefit from it on a personal level and at work and thanked Colonel Harb and Major Nakhala for their cooperation and good efforts in communicating with the program to carry out training activities.
Colonel Harb expressed his thanks to the programme and the trainers and stressed the importance of the psychological element of any patient to stay away from the crime and called on the participants to apply what they learned through their continuous interaction with the public. He also stressed the importance of such training courses in the development of the professional process, especially in the General Investigation Service.
The participants expressed their gratitude and thanks to all those who contributed to the implementation of this training course and called for the need to hold additional courses in the field of mental health in the future because of its effective and important role in their work.
At the end, certificates and training material were delivered to the participants. And Colonel Harb gave a shield of thanks to the Gaza Community Mental Health Program for its useful services to the Palestinian community in the field of mental health and human rights.
Note: The activities of this course started on Sunday, the 8th of September, 2019 and a total of 16 training hours. The training was conducted by specialized trainers from the Gaza Community Mental Health Program.
