In a series of meetings he has had with Congress people, Director General of Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, Dr Yasser Abu Jamei has met on Friday, February 10, 2023, with Congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib to explain to her the impact of the hard reality in the Gaza Strip on the psychological wellbeing of people, especially children.
“Great to meet with Dr. Abu-Jamei of the Gaza Community Mental Health Program. 800,000 children in Gaza have only ever lived under blockade and bombings, and over 80% of them suffer from anxiety and depression. No child should experience that kind of trauma,” Congresswoman Tlaib tweeted.
Dr Abu Jamei has been on a visit to the United States since January 23, 2023 to campaign for supporting mental health and human rights in the Gaza Strip. He has been meeting with US officials and mental health and human rights activiists and participating in seminars and workshops to explain how the mental health situation has taken a gruesome twist to the worst as a consequence of a host of complex political and economic reasons.
