A delegation from the European
Union has visited on Thursday, august 18, 2022 Gaza Community Mental Health
Programme to be updated on the mental health state of Gaza population and the
interventions offered as part of the project that GCMHP is implementing in
partnership with the EU.
The EU delegation included Mr Joris Heeren, Head of Governance Section; Ms Sara Dominion, Program Manager, Ms Marzia Dalla Vedova, Program Manager of Governance and Conflict Resolution; Ms Muna Nuur Mohammad, Programe Manager; Ms Basim Adwin, Program Manager; and Mr Ayman Fteiha,EU Office Supervisor in Gaza.
The visit comes within the framework of following up the mental health situation of children and parents in the Gaza Strip and the most important challenges facing the mental health sector, as well as the services provided by GCMHP in general and those provided through project “Respect and protection of the rights to mental health for women, men, girls and boys with and without disabilities victims/survivors of human rights violations in the Gaza Strip”, which is funded by the EU.
The delegation was received by Dr Yasser Abu Jamei, Director General; Mr Qusai Abu Odei, Director of External Relation Department; Ms Aisha Basyouni, Head of Project Department; Ms Alaa Al-Baba, the project coordinator. Ms Mariam Ashour and Ms Alaa El-Saraj, representatives from the Women Affairs Center, also attended the meeting with the delegation.
Dr Abu Jamei made a presentation at the beginning of the meeting, briefing the delegation about the psychosocial situation in the Gaza Strip, especially after the recent military escalation, early in August, and the ensued challenges which face the mental health sector in meeting the increasing demand by the population on the services.
On her part, Ms Al-Baba informed the delegation about the progress of the project and the made achievements made in the period between January and August, 2022.
Following the meeting the delegation was taken in a tour inside GCMHP Gaza Community Centre to be oriented on the types of services and interventions and how the population benefit from them.
The visit comes as part of cooperation and mutual work between the EU and GCMHP, and which aim at supporting the mental health state of Gaza population.
