Concluding its campaign which it has organized on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism to eliminate Violence Against Women, the activities of which are internationally carried out from the 10th of November to 15th of December, Gaza Community Mental Health Programme has held a workshop to discuss the achievements and challenges in the efforts made to support women in the Palestinian society.
The workshop came at the end of a series of awareness-raising and advocacy activities GCMHP has implemented during the campaign.
Partner organisations in the field of mental health and human rights attended the workshop which opened the space for discussing women’s situation in the Gaza Strip from legal and psychosocial perspectives with specialized panelists.
The panel included Ms Ameera Muhana, GBV Coordinator in the Gaza Strip,UNFPA; Hassan Ziyada, GCMHP psychologist; Ms Fatma Ashour, lawyer and human rights activists; Ms Tahani Qasem, Coordinator of Hayat Project for the Protection and Empowerment of Women and Families – Centre for Women’s Legal Research and Consultation; and Faten Abu Al-Qarei, Head of Child Statestic Department, Palestinian Bureau of Statistics.
To enrich the discussions about women’s current affairs and situation during the workshop a short video clip was presented to the audience, showing some stereotypic social perceptions about girls and women. These perceptions were both commented on by the panelists and the attendees, and also addressed as part of the recommendations at the end of the workshop.
