A delegation from the Representative Office of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ramallah has visited on Sunday, July 18, 2021 Gaza Commuinty Mental Health Programme to be updated on the recent mental health situation in the Gaza Strip and the efforts done to support the psychological wellbeing of the population.
The delegation which included included Ms Siyuan He, First Secretary for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance; and Ms Hanna Ilga, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the German Representative Office, had a meeting with Dr Yasser Abu Jamei, Director General; Mr Qusai Abu Odei, Director of External Relations and Fun Raising Department; Ms Aisha Al-Basyouni, Head of Projects Unit; and Mr Hassan Al-Shaer, Project Manager. The meeting was also attended by Ms Nour Ashour, GIZ Technical Officer.
Dr Abu Jamei started the meeting with briefing the delegation on GCMHP’s plans and actions of interventions to deal with the psychosocial challenges stemming from the successive crises, explaining the professional challenges that mental health workers face due to the ever increasing demand on their services.
He also briefed the delegation about the activities that GCMHP is carrying out through projects funded by the GIZ, and explained how the cooperation between the two organisations had significantly contributed to the work done to support the mental health state of the Gazans, presenting success stories in this regard.
In addition, he commended the German role in supporting the Palestinian people, saying that this supports needs to continue, especially in the shadow of the suffering the people are enduring.
On their part, the German delegation expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their commitment to alleviate their suffering, and expressed their admiration for the work done by Gaza Community Mental Health Programme to support wellbeing of the people in Gaza.
After the meeting the delegation was taken in a tour inside GCMHP facilities to be introduced to the work mechanism and protocols used in providing mental health therapy and counselling to beneficiaries.
