Educational meeting on Parent-child communication in cooperation with GIZ

GCMHP arranged in February 2 public meetings about the healthy communication between parents and children.

The educational sessions, which were held in Al-Hilal Sports Club in Gaza, and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society Club in Khan Younis, focused on methods of communications between caregivers, and children in age group between 11 and 17.

These awareness sessions are part of “Sports for Smile” project which Gaza Community Mental Health Programme is implementing in partnership with the German Development Agency (GIZ).

The meeting at Al-Hilal Club was conducted by Ms Rawaya Hamam, head of GCMHP Training and Scientific Research Department, who discussed with the large public gathering of female and male participants the correct ways of communicating effectively and healthily with their children or their charges.

At Palestinian Red Crescent Society Club, GCMHP Psychologist Osama Freina provided the session.

Sports coaches also attended the meetings, with the purpose of being oriented about how to deal with the children they are going to be dealing with.

The meetings were also attended by Nour Ashour, GIZ programme coordinator, and Hasan Shaer, GCMHP project coordinator.

The participants were fully engaged in the animated discussion and asked questions about situations when they found it difficult to deal with their children or help them solve a problem. They also had the opportunity to share their experiences.

At the end of the meetings the attendees filled in the meeting questionnaire and expressed their satisfaction and thanked both the GCMHP and GIZ for launching ‘Sports for Smile’ Project, which they said is vital for developing their children’s skills and building their self-confidence.
