In collaboration with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and as part of the Sports for Smiles Project, the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme started an advanced course on ‘The Mental Health of Children’. 21 male football coaches and female volleyball coaches from four clubs in Gaza participated. These clubs are Al-Maghazi Services Club, Beit Hanoun Youth Club, The Palestinian Red Crescent Club in Khanyounis, and the Crescent Club for Sport in Gaza. Ms. Inas Jouda, head of the Training Unit, and Dr. Imad Abed, psychiatrist, and Mr. Mohanned Al-Salhi, Project Coordinated at GCMHP attended this opening session which will be the start of a course conducted by specialists from the GCMHP.
This course will be conducted over five days comprising of 40 hours of training. It will tackle a number of subjects such as: Personality Traits and the Disorders Connected to them, the Difference between Personality Traits and Personality Disorders and how Sport Coaches can Help Children who Have Personality Challenges, Anger of 14-17 year-old Children and its Consequences, Anger Management, and Gender Based Violence.
Ms. Jouda and Dr. Abed welcomed those present and gave a brief introduction about the GCMHP and the activities and services it provides to the Palestinian community. They also emphasised the importance of this training course and the importance of continuing to collaborate with the GIZ on similar projects that will enhance the capacity of professionals in Gaza.
