A delegation from Premiere Urgence International met on Thursday, July 5, 2020 with Gaza Community Mental Health Programme to benefit from the latter’s experience in providing psychosocial support to the community.
Intending to include psychosocial interventions as part of its activities, PUI met with GCMHP’s MH experts and other senior administrative staff members.
Mr Jihad Abu Hasan, Chief Field Coordinator, represented PUI in the meeting, which was attended by Qusai Abu Odei, Director of External Relations And Resource Development Department; Ms Aisha Al-Basyouni, Head of Projects and Fund Raising Unit; Dr Sami Owida, Director of Gaza Community Centre.
Mr Abu Odei started the meeting with a presentation about GCMHP’s interventions in the special context of the Gaza Strip, explaining the mechanisms used in provision of services.
Dr Oweida, on his part, explained the mental health challenges and the most common disorders that people suffer from and the techniques used by the professionals in providing support to the community.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on arranging a follow-up meeting that will be attended by PUI’s International Protection Coordinator via Skype to discuss in detail the mental health situation in the Gaza Strip so as to form a clear understanding that would function as a base for the international organisation’s intervention plans.
