“MSF delegation visits GCMHP to promote cooperation”

A delegation from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) visited Gaza Community Mental Health Programme on Monday, December 16, 2019 to identify the common ground between the two organizations and explore ways of cooperation.

The MSF delegation included each of Mr Dorothee DESLANDES, Medical Team Leader; Mr Laurence Le Sommer, Health Promotion and Psychosocial Manager; and Simon Silberberg, Mental Health Coordinator.

The delegation was met by GCMHP Director General, Dr Yasser Abu Jamie, and Head of External Relations and Resources Development Department, Qusai Abuodei.

The meeting started with the MSF delegation giving a briefing about the services their organization provides and the fields of its work and how some of their activities crisscross with those of GCMHOP.

On the GCMHP part, Dr Abu Jamei explained the MH services the Programme provides and community-based activities which are meant to alleviate the suffering of the Gazans who have been greatly affected by ramifications of wars and blockade over the last 20 years.

He also talked about the Programme’s substantial contribution to the capacity building of MH practitioners and specialists in the Gaza strip through the trainings provided by its department of ‘Trainining and Scientific Research’, and also through its high diploma of mental health.

At the end of the meeting the two sides agreed on methods of cooperation and liaising in order to provide a wider and more effective services  for the Palestinian community.
